With the weeks just flying by & the long Memorial Day Weekend only days away, far flung NACK members from Eastern Suffolk, Western Nassau & various North & South shore points in between gathered over at Timber Point for our last Peer Practice of the month.
To avoid the brisk wind out on the open river, a decision was made to head over to the protected waters of the ‘Drowning Hole’ to conduct the practice session. With ACA evaluations coming up late next month, some of the newer members were working on the skills required to advance & be able to join in the more advanced paddles coming up this season. More seasoned members took the time to practice their rolls & rescues. The group was a good mix of different skill levels & no matter what your level there is always something new to learn or improve upon.
After the regular session broke up a few of us decided to stay & take a short paddle downriver and were rewarded for our efforts with another beautiful sunset on the way back. (& then greeted with an unwanted welcome from all the gnats & bugs when we came ashore!) Note to self: Time to keep some bug spray in the day hatch.
