Every year The Waterfront Center, in Oyster Bay plays hosts to adults, children and families the first Sunday in June for Bay Day.
From their website:
“During the event all WFC activities such as sailing, kayaking and Christeen sails are provided at no cost. It is our way of giving back to the community, promoting environmental awareness and stewardship while having a great time. We are excited to invite the community to experience all we have to offer and promote environmental awareness and stewardship; reinforcing our vision so they everyone can enjoy and preserve it for all time. Through Bay Day and its activities we share with the public the importance and connectivity of all environments as a whole and how to best recreate in them.”
The WaterFront Center was created in 2000 to transform the former Jakobson Shipyard site into a hands-on educational and recreational facility. Today this is the home of the WaterFront Center, an environmental education and recreation not-for-profit community center. It is also the home of Christeen, a National Historic Landmark and the oldest surviving Oyster Sloop in North America.
North Atlantic Canoe and Kayak members will be on hand throughout the day with kayak skills demonstrations and information on kayaking opportunities in the area. Stop by and say Hello!! Bay Bay activities will run Sunday June 1, 2014 from 12 noon until 5 PM. The WFC is located at 1 West End Avenue, Oyster Bay 11771.
