Kayakers Needed for Long Island Swim Events


In the past NACK has provided volunteer kayakers to patrol the course for various Open-Water Swimming events in Long Island venues. There are several such events coming up where kayakers are urgently needed to help ensure that swimmers are as safe as they can possibly be in the open water’

Sunday, June 24, 2012 : The 2nd Annual Huntington/Cold Spring Harbor 1&2 Mile Swim at West Neck Beach (off West Neck Road, Huntington). This event is a fundraiser for the Huntington YMCA ‘s swim scholarship program to teach disadvantaged children the lifesaving skill of swimming (see flyer attached). Saturday, August 25, 2012 : The West Neck Pod’s “Big 5-Mile Swim” from Cold Spring Harbor to Long Island Sound . The “West Neck Pod” is a group of open-water swimmers who swim regularly out of West Neck Beach in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. Our usual distance is between 1 and 2 miles, with occasional 3-mile swims, but this season some of us are interested in extending our boundaries even further, with a planned 5-mile swim northward from West Neck Beach into Long Island Sound.  Contact Carol Moore (westneckpod@verizon.net).
