After being greenlighted by substantial unanimity with a vote taken at last November\u2019s general membership meeting, the \u2018NACK drone\u2019 has moved from a mere board meeting proposal to becoming a rock-solid (in up to 15mph winds so far) reality.<\/p>\n<p>Definitely a quantum leap ahead of that camera-on-a-pool-skimmer-pole <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/v299ihjcpwdbdje\/The SCA Spirit %285%29.MP4?dl=0\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;drone simulator&#8217;<\/a><\/span> we played with on Paul\u2019s Gilgo trip last April 30th! Our new \u2018DJI Mavic Pro\u2019 landed stateside in early February &amp; shortly thereafter was christened @Sunken Meadow on the 11th of that month with <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/pc5fkio8h5g02k1\/First Flight %28Fly Robin Fly%29.mp4?dl=0\" target=\"_blank\">its inaugural flight.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A week later on the 18th Chris K, Chris F &amp; I returned there for a nice paddle up the Nissequoge followed by our first drone filming of an <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/get-the-nack.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Screenshot-2.18.17.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">actual kayak<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve made some substantial progress I feel, starting out as raw, absolute beginners &amp; steadily have built up to the point where we now have one pilot (<em>not me<\/em>) who is comfortable enough behind the controller to fly out over open water.<\/p>\n<p>Nice work Chris. A few were extraordinarily generous &amp; that extra boost bought us some invaluable pre-season time to navigate the intricacies of quadcoptering. There are<em> a LOT<\/em> of features to absorb.
